Radiator repair Riverside, CA

The radiator is the heart of your car’s cooling system. It takes in heat from the engine and exchanges it for cooler air. The heat, pressure, and time can all lead to damage, and you’ll need a radiator repair. As your trusted Ford dealer in Riverside, CA, we can repair or replace your radiator for you. These are a few signs of possible radiator problems.

Signs You Need a Radiator Repair at Your Ford Dealer

Coolant Leak

Coolant is essential for your engine, as it can absorb engine heat. This liquid is pumped through your engine and absorbs the heat radiating from the engine components. The heat is then trapped inside the coolant and taken to the radiator. In the radiator, the coolant enters a series of tubes where cool outside air flow rapidly cools the hot coolant. Once the process is complete, the coolant is recirculated.

The coolant flows through the system at high speed and under high pressure. Due to this speed and pressure, even a small hole in the cooling system can rapidly lead to a coolant loss. Coolant is brightly colored, and a pool of pink, green, yellow, or blue liquid underneath your car means you’re losing coolant. Our technicians will find the source of the leak and repair it.

Broken Thermostat

When your engine temperature rises over 185 F, the increasing heat causes coolant to be released and pumped through the system. Coolant will continue to flow until your engine temperature drops below 185 F. Without coolant, your engine has no way to control the temperature, and it will rapidly overheat. The thermostat controls the release of the coolant.

The thermostat will open and close as needed to regulate the temperature and coolant flow through the engine. In time, the thermostat can fail, and jam open or closed. A closed thermostat will prevent the coolant from flowing, and your engine will start to overheat. Our technicians will examine the thermostat and replace it if it failed.

Damaged Radiator Fan

When your car is moving, airflow through the grille is the fastest and most efficient way to remove the heat. This process, however, depends on the fast inflow of air, and this doesn’t happen if you’re stationary in traffic for example. The heat must still be removed, and this is where the radiator fan comes in.

The fan will start as soon as your engine temperature rises when your car is idling. The airflow from the fan pushes the heat radiating from the tubes out of your engine. If this fan fails, your engine temperature will rise any time your engine is running and your car isn’t moving.

An overheating car can result in serious and permanent damage to your engine. Call us ASAP at Fritts Ford.
