For better safety, the Ford Edge has pretensioners for the shoulder seat belts in the front and rear seats to eliminate dangerous slack by tightening the seat belts during a collision. The Edge also has force limiters to limit the pressure the seat belts exert on passengers. The Kia Sorento doesn't offer these features for the rear seat belts. The Edge's warning system is also better than the Sorento, with a standard blind-spot warning system to alert drivers to objects in the vehicle's blind spots. Only the upper tier of the Sorento, S/EX/SX/Prestige, offers a blind-spot warning system.




Engine

The Edge's standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder has 250 horsepower compared to the Sorento's 191 horsepower, and the Edge has 280-pound feet of torque in contrast to the Sorento's meager 181. With a standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder, the Sorento again loses out to the Edge ST's standard 2.7 turbo V6, producing 335 horsepower to the Sorento's 281. The Sorento's paltry 311-pound feet cannot compare to the Edge's 380-pound feet of torque.




Fuel Economy and Range

While it's a vehicle with a powerful engine, the Edge still beats the Sorento. The Edge's 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder gets better fuel mileage than the Sorento 2.5 AWD 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder. The Edge gets 23 city/25 highway mpg compared to the Sorento's 21 city/28 highway mpg.
